This stove was conceived by Benjamin Franklin originally - hence the name. The design has been with us for over 200 years. While it is not the most efficient stove around today, it is perfect for the situation where the feel of an open fire is wanted, but coupled with greater ease, cleanliness, efficiency and safety of a stove. For those large inglenook fireplaces that either will not work properly or just serve to suck the heat from the room and send it up the chimney - Franklin stoves fit the bill perfectly. All three models look good free standing. As the firebox is quite big you can burn huge logs on these fires and the grate and ash pan that now come with it let you burn coal and anthracite as well. With its doors folded right back, you have a large open fire and yet close the doors, and you have an efficient slow burning stove. Please be aware that this stove has been copied all of its life (we have another good version on the site made by Stovax),but be aware that there are a number of rather poor copies around today (made in China) that fall a long way short of the quality one would want in a stove. When ordering spares for this stove please look very carefully at the dimensions of you stove - if you have a reproduction model - the spares for the Country franklin will not fit. It comes in three different sizes & used to have a choice of glass or solid doors - it is now only produced with plain glass doors. It is not a good idea to change the doors on your stove - the fit of the new doors will not be very good. It is a multi fuel stove with a grate & ash pan & you can get replacement grates for them.
